The Venosta - an Alpine valley between Merano and Reschenpass - is particularly characterized by its low rainfall. Reason for the surrounding mountain ranges: the Ortler-Cevedale (Ortler 3905 m, the highest mountain of South Tyrol), the Ötztal Alps and the Sesvenna, who hold the clouds and protect the valley from wind and weather.
